Spider-Man: Friend or Foe trailer doesn't make us feel better
First, we're concerned by the lack of actual gameplay here and in several other trailers we've seen. Also, the character designs are pretty underwhelming. Most troubling though is the decided lack of swinging, which is the best part of the previous Spider-Man games. We can already hear you shouting at your computer screens and, yes, we know that this game is aimed at kids. But just 15 minutes ago we were making clanging sound effects with our mouths while we walked a Big Daddy figure across our desk. You'll forgive us if we don't draw much of a distinction.

That really sucks. Honestly.
But if ignorant people keep buying this games, theres nothing we can do.

Actually spiderman games doesn't suck as much as you would think, they are pretty enjoyable well not all of them for example Spiderman 2 was awesome but 3 was a piece of crap but it was based on Spiderman 3 the movie which was also crappy.
It would be ok if it was a Wii/Ds Exlucisve but it simply doesn't work as a multiplatform,Pc gamers will take it as an insult, xbox 360/Ps3 gamers will say WTf with the grpahics Etc etc.
I'm looking foward to this game for the Wii.

The Nerd plays some horrible Spidey games:

I have only the basics of comic book knowledge but I can't place Venom's seeming sonic scream. Isn't that a weakness of his?
Roger @ Aug 24th 2007 11:45AM
I thought it looked pretty fun. The previous Spiderman games never appealed to me, but this looked like Marvel: UA to me. Which I liked.
Joshua @ Aug 24th 2007 11:45AM
I'll still rent the darn thing though just because it's Spiderman. Also, my Big Daddy figure has decided to protect a new item. That would be a Heinz pickle whistle my boss gave me this week.

"Let's make a game with zero effort paid to graphics and call it an art style!"
Stupidiot @ Aug 24th 2007 11:50AM
It's not fair! Why can't we get Big daddy figures of our own here in the UK? I may not have anything for him to protect, but it would have made a nice geek trophy.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 24th 2007 11:55AM
If they can't survive American mailing think how worse it would get going overseas.
MrXBob @ Aug 24th 2007 12:36PM
Uhh, I'm in the UK and I have a Big Daddy figurine. Both gameplay.co.uk and game.com had the special editions in stock - most people I know have them too (all from the UK). It's pretty freaking cool too, and mine wasnt broken :D
KiwiLord @ Aug 24th 2007 12:00PM
Did anyone else notice that Venom was using a loud sound (roaring) as a weapon? Venom...using...SOUND. The very thing that can cause him harm...Maybe he'll get a flamethrower too.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 24th 2007 12:02PM
That's what I said.
Word of the street. @ Aug 24th 2007 12:56PM
Is like giving Superman a Kryptonite sword hahaha.
I wonder if the people behind this even know who the hell is spiderman.
Dale @ Aug 24th 2007 12:21PM
So did anyone else see Venom using sound as a wea-
I'll get my coat. :D
mike_wong @ Aug 24th 2007 1:58PM
had they made this "Spider-Man: LEGO" it would have had hope.
HEY!!!! @ Aug 24th 2007 12:50PM
I hate how they on use the movie theme for all the new spiderman games. they were ok except for the 3rd one, what was with all the singing and dancing??? what they need to do a remake of maximum carnage
Almack64 @ Aug 24th 2007 1:39PM
Maximum Carnage was a great game. Still play sometimes on the SNES have yet to beat it though. It was hard as heck like games should be.
Evan @ Aug 24th 2007 1:08PM
Every game can't have AAA-quality graphics. Only a handful of games can demand the $20+ million budgets it now takes to make a game with AAA-quality graphics, and still make a profit. That's one of the side effect of going HD - it widens the gap between the big-budget games and the normal games.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Aug 25th 2007 5:02AM
God forbid developers should actually have to work for their profit, especially if they're handling a huge franchise like SPIDER-MAN.
I repeat: SPIDER-MAN. Yeah, the movies that made a s**tload of money at the box office.
Zsavior @ Aug 24th 2007 1:15PM
@ HEY!!! THe awesomeness of that game can't be contained. You got to understand that was pure greatness. Matter of fact anytime Spiderman and Venom team up to catch Carnage is epic.
Venom threatening innocent by standers with death if they don't come forward and say where Carnage went. Spiderman bewildered by the fact he is teamed with a lunatic to catch a lunatic. That is inspiration for gaming right there.
john @ Aug 24th 2007 2:15PM
I don't know a whole lot about this game but I've got to disagree on the character design. I think it looks great. It's along the lines of Team Fortress 2. I especially like Doc Oc.
Blaggers @ Aug 24th 2007 3:47PM
It seems like they're trying to go after the Lego Star Wars market. Too bad those games were actually really good.
Viol8tor Mode @ Aug 24th 2007 3:32PM
I know this game head to toe, as i work for Activision and worked on this project.
It's aimed at a younger audience, hence the more simple graphics and gameplay. it's an ok game for what the target audience is.
But many 360 gamers will play it for once reason, and one reason only. = Easiest achievement points ever.
Poisoned Al @ Aug 24th 2007 6:04PM
You'd have to be totally incompetent to make a game where you can play Doc-Oc suck.

Burnt Meatloaf @ Aug 25th 2007 5:06AM
The good news is that this trailer does exactly what a trailer SHOULD do: let you know if the game is actually going to be decent or not. Too many trailers fail to do that.
Unfortunately, this trailer actually does it's job very well.
