Samus gets a secret call from Iwata
But did that stop Iwata from calling and leaving that exact information on Samus' answering machine? Of course it didn't. According to Go Nintendo's translation, he says "Hello, this is Iwata from Nintendo. You may not know from an outsiders point of view, but being a director is really hard! When things are really busy and stressful we (us directors) may look tired and sick, then people may feel sorry for us! But in my case, it's the opposite, I get fatter and fatter, so then people don't think I'm stressed at all!"
That's great, boss. Can we get back to saving the world now?

The more I see and hear from Iwata, I'm surprised he hasn't been taken to the asylum. I mean, is he on drugs the whole time? I've never seen him not smile. And really, what the hell is this message all about? Is it a subliminal push to talk up Wii Fit? Or is it the rantings of a lunatic that has been pushed too far by his own creations...

Its better then going crazy AND being taken down from being president and then taken out of the company altogether
JerJer @ Aug 29th 2007 11:15AM
and the fat theme continues! next up, bungie employees gain weight from way too many play-throughs of halo 3 without sharing!
mr nimblewick @ Aug 29th 2007 11:28AM
No surprise fat keeps coming up, what with 75% of americans considered obese now.
Exo @ Aug 29th 2007 11:41AM
100% of nimblewicks use wrong numbers in statistics

"100% of nimblewicks use wrong numbers in statistics"
first time I've actually laughed out loud at something online in a while
mr nimblewick @ Aug 29th 2007 12:24PM
I heard 75% just the other day. Not my fault if the media keeps bumping it up. They also put children at 25%.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 29th 2007 1:17PM
It wouldn't surprise me if nimblewick's numbers were exact: the BMI (Body Mass Index) system is severely flawed (assuming that they are using it).
cogline1987 @ Aug 29th 2007 2:37PM
If I had to guess, I would say the real problem with that phrase is no the 75%, but rather the word "American". Because, and correct me if I'm wrong, "Iwata" doesn't sound like a very American name to me...

First off, I love how that percetage keeps jumping around every time someone says it.
But my real question, since I haven't played it yet - when Samus pulls up that computer interface, do you use the Wiimote to move her hand around and push the buttons? Because that, while simple, would be a pretty slick touch.
I need to get this damned game!
boon @ Aug 29th 2007 11:37AM
Jerk, you do in fact control Samus' movement within the cockpit. A very nice touch, indeed.
jman @ Aug 29th 2007 11:35AM
yes u control it with the wii mote...and u can touch a lot of dif buttons in her ship...and even tho this is really simple its really quite fun..

*drools*
Damn my empty wallet! Now I am going to have to trade in a bunch of shit.
Paying bills is overrated anyway.
BPM @ Aug 29th 2007 11:46AM
Maybe I'm just being a bit nitpicking, but I find it odd that you control Samus's left hand with the Wii Remote (which is held in the right). Only time the Nunchuk is used to control her hand is with the Grapple Lasso/Beam.
But, I guess it's due to how the Nunchuk has accelorometers, but no pointer.
You do interface with a lot of stuff. Hand scanners, keycode pads, levers to pull out/push in/turn, etc.
J-Guy @ Aug 29th 2007 12:44PM
Couldn't they have just taken her hand out of the suit for a second. I mean, how did Samus carry her lunch tray when she was in school? With one hand?
BPM @ Aug 29th 2007 12:52PM
I'm sure she deactivates the Varia Suit when she needs to eat.
Varia Suit - has the power to appear/disappear, yet it doesn't have the power to give her a free right hand!
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 29th 2007 12:04PM
"Samus I am your father."
Jerk Face @ Aug 29th 2007 12:45PM
I'd love Samus to call me daddy. Amirite?
ThornedVenom @ Aug 29th 2007 1:19PM
Is that an Easter egg? If it is, it's pretty damn awesome!
Ryudo @ Aug 29th 2007 1:46PM
I discovered this last night also and was wondering WTF and what did he just say? was wishing I knew Japanese also thought he might have been giving insight to the next Metroid game or something Nintendo but it's just some ramble haha Iwata is funny.
Shadow El @ Aug 29th 2007 1:47PM
I noticed the call to Nintendo of Japan last night when I was playing around with radio controls, I was wondering when someone would put out a translation.
Shadow El @ Aug 29th 2007 1:48PM
Damnit, Ryudo beating me to the punch.
CyberKnight @ Aug 29th 2007 1:53PM
Does that mean he's... Turning American?
Eric B @ Aug 29th 2007 5:17PM
Ever heard of the word "SPOILER"? Try it sometime.
Mr Khan @ Aug 29th 2007 5:53PM
I love Easter Eggs
Richard @ Aug 29th 2007 10:05PM
Thanks for the spoilers, Joystiq. It's not like any of us would've found this completely unexpected surprise far more interesting coming across it in the actual game, rather than in an article where the charm of it is completely lost.
