Sega announced today that they're bringing two Genesis games to the Wii's Virtual Console:
Crack Down and
ESWAT: City Under Siege. We know that you probably are reading the post because of the headline, so let us burst that bubble first: It's not that
Crackdown. This is an entirely different game, sort of a hybrid between
Smash TV,
Gauntlet and a game that only uses 1/4 of the screen to display the action. (No, seriously,
go look.)
Then there's
ESWAT, which is
Robocop with a jet pack. ... Well, Robocop with a jet pack and a rocket launcher, which, objectively, sounds like the best game ever made. We're not sure when these will be available, so keep an eye out on Mondays.

Jet Pack + Rocket Launcher + Robot + Cop = Awesomeness (I dont know if its even a word)
Leobebes @ Sep 11th 2007 6:34PM
I hope they still maintained the integrity of the Shai Gen, the Volk, and Los Muertos while porting it over to VC.
the_game_master @ Sep 11th 2007 6:39PM
Are people really buying roms? damn.
Alexisonfire @ Sep 11th 2007 6:51PM
Well, this is old news, considering both of those games were released just last week in Europe.
Tomorrow, shall I expect a "Sin & Punishment announced outside of Japan" post?
Nushio (NDF - Earth Ring) @ Sep 11th 2007 7:07PM
I wonder if Sega will bundle a demo for Mario and Sonic at the Olympics with Crack Down...
Fernando Rocker (NDF - Water Ring) @ Sep 11th 2007 7:15PM
Nushio

colin @ Sep 11th 2007 8:12PM

hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 11th 2007 9:45PM
Hmm Let's see there's the deforestation, super radiation, smog, toxics, and hate rings left.
colin @ Sep 12th 2007 2:03AM
how about "NDF - Prostitution Ring" is that taken? either that or "NDF - Prince Albert"
Lemmiwinks @ Sep 11th 2007 7:08PM
"...which, objectively, sounds like the best game ever made."

Matthew Hilario @ Sep 11th 2007 7:14PM
OMG I BEAT ESWAT before! id buy it.
Knoxximus @ Sep 11th 2007 7:26PM
Crack Down is NOTHING like Smash TV or Gauntlet...if anything, it's more like a top down, co-op Metal Gear Solid-extra lite.
Iwa @ Sep 11th 2007 9:23PM
I wouldn't say it's like Metal Gear Solid at all. Basically you're defusing bombs in an overhead maze. I had a blast playing it in the arcades. Still have the cartridge for my Genesis too.
Mr Khan @ Sep 11th 2007 7:26PM
Sweet
now give us Sin & Punishment info, and talk Neo Geo US, and my VC lusts will be sated
Sean Newton @ Sep 11th 2007 7:42PM
Heh, anyone remember the cybernetic gorillas from e-swat? No one puts cybernetic gorillas in their games anymore...
refinedsugar @ Sep 11th 2007 8:31PM
I remember playing ESWAT in the arcades. Good stuff, don't know if he rivals Robocop ... maybe game-wise, but anyway if you're going to play it I'd opt for the arcade rom under emulation rather than the genesis version.
psyborg @ Sep 11th 2007 8:59PM
ESWAT look like a dumbed down Super Metroid clone to anyone else?
I'm totally getting it anyways.
Dholcrist @ Sep 11th 2007 10:48PM
Robocop with a jetpack and rocket launcher?
So... it's the Robocop 3 game?
Diane @ Sep 11th 2007 11:44PM
Awesome! I'm so glad to see Crackdown, but it will be disappointing if it's the graphics dead Genesis version, they never did it justice compared to the arcade version (and the original wasn't finished in MAME yet last time I looked)
Zootittles @ Sep 12th 2007 1:46PM
It's funny- a while ago when all the news for the 360 Crackdown started to surface, I thought at first it was going to be an update to the old Sega game!
And I'll second Diane- I hope they port the arcade version rather than the Genesis one... although that hope is slim.
