Oblivion's Gamebryo engine ported to Wii
Don't be fooled: this is not a sign that Bethesda is bringing its Elder Scroll series to Nintendo consoles. However, Emergent Technologies' Gamebryo engine -- which runs both Oblivion and the upcoming Fallout 3 -- now supports the Wii.
Gamebryo is also optimized for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360. We haven't seen any screenshots of the engine in use with Nintendo's hardware and no projects have been announced; the Gamebryo engine has also been used to make Freedom Force, Civilization IV and Dark Age of Camelot. Will we start seeing a significant visual improvement in Wii games? That's entirely up to the game makers, to be honest.

Now hopefully Nintendo's games won't be the only games with good graphics....
Netjack @ Sep 12th 2007 6:22PM
It will probably look like the same level of Morrwind.
I base this comment on NOTHING!
colin @ Sep 12th 2007 6:26PM

Netjack @ Sep 12th 2007 6:29PM

Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 12th 2007 7:42PM
That's because "ebay" is actually the Japanese word for "You got served."
Mr Khan @ Sep 12th 2007 6:26PM
May allow for down-porting, which would be somewhat of a good thing (RE5) and somewhat of a bad thing. but it may also allow for some better realistic stuff
Although Red Steel was using a modified Unreal Engine, and we saw how well that turned out
Patrick @ Sep 12th 2007 6:34PM
This is good news, maybe it'll encourage developers not to be lazy anymore and create quality games on the Wii.
Vegnagun @ Sep 12th 2007 6:44PM
Don't get ahead of yourself there.
Rob Accomando @ Sep 12th 2007 6:45PM
Minigame Wii Extreme with the Gamebyro engine! SWEEEET!
Patrick @ Sep 12th 2007 6:51PM
Can you imagine Wiifit on Gamebryo? Ultra realistic yoga classes!
/sarcasm.
Shadow Hog @ Sep 12th 2007 6:47PM
"Gamebroy (sic)"...?
If that's the case, I can't wait for the Gamebroy Advance! :D
Vegnagun @ Sep 12th 2007 7:02PM
I loled. Too bad it's gamebryo.
waynski1457 @ Sep 12th 2007 7:01PM

Einhanderkiller @ Sep 12th 2007 7:09PM
Needs more lens flare.
BPM @ Sep 13th 2007 12:27AM
And more bloom.
Dr. Nooooooooo @ Sep 13th 2007 12:40AM
the photographic kind or the Orlando kind?
phattie @ Sep 12th 2007 7:05PM
If they can do Oblivion on PSP .. then they can surely port it to Wii... maybe, PSP has more useable ram now.
Netjack @ Sep 12th 2007 7:18PM
Crap... They just might do that, they just might make the psp version of Oblivion, and then port it on the wii, but this is Bethesda, they actually improve a game on ever re-release, they wont be lazy right?????
Even though the psp slim has more ram then the psp, they can't use*** the extra ram without pissing off everone who has an older version of the psp. Look at what happend with the gameboy color and gameboy, and that was more then just extra ram.
I wouldn't put it pass sony if they tried "FOR PSP SLIM ONLY" tag on everything though.
Spirit-of @ Sep 12th 2007 7:08PM
"Oblivion: Swords"
Confirmed.
bigd7387 @ Sep 12th 2007 7:20PM
Who knows. Back in 88' I bought the Sega Master System over the NES based on graphics & Sega. The NES games all used the same colors of Black, Brown, Green in every game. Then the SNES followed by the Super N64 then the Super Gamecube and now the Super Wii. My theory from what I've played so far is that the Wii is the Super Super Super NES but now with pastels instead of Black, Brown, Green. Yeah. Nintendo will never sell graphics over cost so in 10 years the Big N will then go thru the trash of 360's and PS3's and introduce the Super Wii-2016 code name Dolphin Revolution.
Mr Khan @ Sep 12th 2007 7:33PM
What?
The only thing i got out of that that made any sense was "I bought a Sega Master System"
not that there's anything wrong with that. Original Phantasy Star ftw
bm @ Sep 12th 2007 8:10PM
Hahaha wow. That is one beautiful trainwreck of a post.
samfish @ Sep 12th 2007 8:11PM
My theory is that he's actually just a kid and repeating the myths and legends he's heard of Nintendo's past, but getting them wrong.
Tom @ Sep 12th 2007 7:40PM
Isn't it true that Oblivion doesn't actually REQUIRE the harddrive to run on Xbox360? You'd think they could port it to the Wii, even if it means long load-times and muddy graphics. It sure would be fun playing with Wiimote pointer functionality.
Deuxhero @ Oct 5th 2007 2:34PM
Sorry tom, Oblivions only selling point is pretty graphics (with bloom!) and the fact it was the only halfway decent game on the 360 at release, they won't port it to the wii under those conditions, otherwise people will see it for the piece of shit it is gameplaywise and that won't be a good day for Pete.
Tom @ Oct 5th 2007 11:29PM
I thought it was a pretty good game (good enough that I finished the main quest, but not enough to make me play it for hundreds of hours like some people). The physics are crap, the collision detection is crap. The NPCs are from the uncanny valley. The music and voicework are okay. I thought it was an overall great game though, due to the item customization and open-ended world. Umm... Who is Pete?
Deuxhero @ Dec 1st 2007 6:46PM
Pete Hines, Bethesda Softworks head of PR (or something along those lines).
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 12th 2007 7:46PM
Although I have no idea what you're talking about, I do like your Super Super Super NES idea. I like to refer to the systems as the Sony 3, the Microsoft 2, and the Nintendo 5, even though that discounts Nintendo's multiple decades of handheld domination and their pre-NES history, and it discounts all of Microsoft/Sony's non-gaming crap. The Nintendo 5 also happens to be my favorite band. Well, they will be after they exist.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 12th 2007 7:47PM
This was supposed to be a reply to bigd7387.
vidGuy @ Sep 12th 2007 10:31PM
I wish I'd be alive for the Nintendo 1337.
Mabui @ Sep 12th 2007 10:40PM
I think this is more of a potential cash in then a sign of their desire to bring content to the Wii. For all intensive purposes, they could just be responding to how well the Wii is doing, and figuring that, even though they might not want to make content for it, they might be able to sell the engine to someone who does.
It almost makes sense.
Michael Lubker (zratchet) @ Sep 12th 2007 10:55PM
Might be for Zoo Tycoon Wii - Zoo Tycoon 2 is done with Gamebryo and Blue Fang was looking for Wii developers at the Austin GDC.
Michael Lubker (zratchet) @ Sep 12th 2007 10:57PM
Also Civilization Revolution.
ThornedVenom @ Sep 13th 2007 4:20AM
Cool, but I'm not expecting much. Show me the games and I'll let you know what I think about Gamebryo on Wii.
t_m @ Sep 13th 2007 7:00AM
Doubt its for one particular game. Its becuase it'll now give all the studios who are trying to play catchup with Wii development an easy route.
And therefore make them a lot of money.
I remember when Mark Rein was making all his disparaging comments about the Wii, and how they'd never put the new Unreal Engine on it. It sounded stupid then, and it still sounds stupid now.
If its your biggest potential platform, you find a wayto put your engine on it... if you are running a business and not a graphics-whore appreciation society.
Oblivion should run in 640x480 on the Wii hardware no problem.. and to be honest, so shuld a lot of 360 games.
Whoever gets the first decent engine onto the platform is gonna make a lot of money as devs rush to make games for it.
Undr @ Nov 26th 2007 7:04AM
Well I'd rather have Daggerfall ported to the Wii then Oblivion.
