Indie studio announces WiiWare title Gravitronix for early 2008
Upstart developer Medaverse is bringing its own game to Nintendo Wii's upcoming WiiWare service. Gravitronix is an action game that will reportedly support up to eight players. Little else is known about the title, except that players will assault enemy territories using the shapes pictured above in the logo.
Medaverse Studios was formerly a game news and review site before deciding to try their luck as a development studio. Gravitronix joins Plättchen Twist 'n' Paint as the two known games heading to WiiWare, which reportedly launches in early 2008. We suspect (and hope that) bigger, more established developers are likely getting behind the download service, but so far they've all been keeping mum, as has Nintendo.

Ska Oreo @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:02PM
yikes, ever heard of shut the fuck up phattie cause no one likes you?
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:37PM
Does phattie even play video games?
ThornedVenom @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:41PM
I thought the Wii only supported 4 controllers max?
BPM (FDF - Hypno-Toad) @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:56PM
Technically... it could support 8, in a multiple of ways.
1) 4 Wii Remotes and 4 GameCube controllers
2) 4 Wii Remotes and 4 Nunchuks
3) 4 Wii Remotes and 4 Classic Controllers3

It would be kind of awkward having your nunchaku tethered to someone else's wiimote, but it technically would work. Now we need a dev crazy enough to do it.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:46AM
Hey captainawesome, you can play Kororinpa: Marble Mania 2 players with one remote and one nunchuck. The game came out in Japan on December 2nd. We got it in March.

Woah woah woah...WiiWare? Seriously...what is this?
OH, now I remember. That thing Nintendo promised us along with online Smash at the launch...right, silly me. All the broken promises get lost in the pile of...err, broken promises.
(not a fanboy comment, as the only 'next gen' system I own is a Wii)
vidGuy @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:24PM
True, but at least they are following through at some point in time. The old Nintendo would have just given up on WiiWare and other such things, choosing to ignore that online games are a huge market.
But I refuse to buy a single WiiWare game until I can use USB storage and play games directly off USB and SD media.
phattie @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:27PM
^ not gonna happen; thats not how nintendo works.. they will release a Wii2 with 8gb of internal memory before they open up the usb and sd ports. Now you can buy another Wii.
vidGuy @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:29PM
I must have got a modded Wii on launch day, then, cause somehow my SD card slot works :\
phattie, how's that 80GB PS3 treating you? I'm sure you have your money ready for the rumbling-Sixaxis and the 120GB PS3.
Anni @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:41PM
Game delays: Only happens with Nintendo systems since 2007!
Exo @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:44PM
They NEVER said Smash was a launch game, are you just making up reasons to be bitter?
BPM (FDF - Hypno-Toad) @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:45PM
Jinx-sensei, I don't recall anyone promising Brawl would be a launch title. I believe Masahiro Sakurai (director of SSB) said he'd like for it to be a launch title (much like Melee was), but he didn't want to rush the game.
Does it matter if a game arrives today, tomorrow, or yesterday? It will come. And when it does, it will be good.
Although here is a broken promise: Satoru Iwata originally stated that Wii would have output to a PC monitor (VGA). Yeah... That didn't happen.
vidGuy @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:52PM
Brawl WAS expected to be a launch title with online play. I'm not finding a direct quote, but here's a mention in an old IGN article. Notice that this is before the naming of the Wii, meaning that development for the game wasn't even close to being done. It was really like the hope that FFXIII would release before then end of 2007, or 2008 for that matter.

WiiWare wasn't announced till this year.

Yes, Nintendo did talk about this before launch, but no one promise anything AT launch....Like no one promise Smash Bros(Except internet blogs who take something someone says out of context).
captainawesome @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:34AM
Hey, it's getting released before Duke Nukem Forever, and DNF was announced, what, 8 years before the Wii was?
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:23PM
I believe Medaverse was originally founded after a woman suffering from a cold recorded the book-on-tape version of Snow Crash.
That's probably not true.
BPM (FDF - Hypno-Toad) @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:47PM
Haha. How obscure!
(Or is it? Don't know how popular Snow Crash is...)
And that icon... What is it? He looks evil (you can tell by the moustache and monocle).
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:11PM
Oh, that's Alberto of Impact, AKA Shocking Alberto.

BPM (FDF - Hypno-Toad) @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:58PM
Ah, so it's a patch, not a monocle. Which is even eviler!
Still, he looks quite badass.

"We suspect (and hope that) bigger, more established developers are likely getting behind the download service"
While I *do* hope that the big guys take a crack at the service, the main reason I'm looking forward to WiiWare is the promise of titles that come from the smaller upstart devs. (I kinda thought that was part of the whole point.)
DBuck_Eye @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:04PM
Don't forget about Impossible Mission. That's going to be a downloadable title as well.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:57PM
The Wii keeps getting more and more indie love! That's what cheaper devkits and affordable resolutions do, suckas! Booyah!
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:02AM
My dream is Viewtiful Joe 3 on WiiWare.
My dreams...they have this habit of never coming true.
