Watch Sonic school Mario, turn Super Sonic in Brawl

For those still in denial, the footage above should be incontrovertible proof that Sega's favorite ~~punching bag~~ mascot is joining the Smash Bros. Brawl cast this December. Shown are some of Sonic's devastatingly fast moves, the return of his horrible voice acting, and the return of that horrible theme song from Sonic Adventure 2. So I guess we can all stop writing those fan letters petitioning Nintendo, huh?

Now, how about some Tails action?

Agreed, Sonic should be a fattie again, but I think SEGA made him taller and skinnier to deviate from how Mario is short and fat.

Yeah, I liked the old Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon too (the one with rebels and a really worthwhile Dr. Robotnick). I gotta say I never warmed up to this new Sonic with the long legs. He's just not as cute as the more rounder cartoon version. But he's here now, and I like that. I'm not as giddy about it as I was with Snake, but now that third-party characters are a go in Smash, it wouldn't be right without Sonic included. Now let's here it. Where's Megaman?

Also I dont like the chubby old sonic, that art back in the day was so bad I like the slimmer one better he is cooler, picture the chubby one saying those lines.

And this is comming from an old-school sonic/genesis fan.

What's wrong with the theme song from sonic adventure? Its so similar to Power rangers that I sometimes think that the green ranger is about to appear out of nowhere.

Although this is probably the game's worst kept secret, for some reason, now it feels like they need to add Bonk to the game as well, in order to cover all three of the 16-bit platforms.

The 'Live & Learn' theme of Sonic Adventure 2 might not be the best of the Sonic series, but I still like it. The classic ones (Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 2 title tracks) are personal fav's, and here's to hoping they've been remixed for Brawl. If Mario gets his fair share of classic theme music (re-orchestrated or original versions), then expect to see the same for the Blue Blur.

Sonic Adventure 2 was, however, significant in that it was the last, pretty good 3D Sonic game.

SWEET BABY MARIO he's fast . . . those are some devastating moves he's got there. Snake looks pretty awesome, but he seems heavily dependant on unique moves that require some set-up. Sonic, however, seems fast and deadly up-close. Fox was a fast enough fighter in Smash Bros. Melee . . . how are we going to handle the fastest character in the INDUSTRY?

And kudos to 'blehh': as for Jaleel White (aka Steve Urkel of Family Matters) . . . I still think his high-pitched, racially independent version of Sonic was the best representation of Sonic's character. Check out the old, American Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons: they were pretty awesome.

I too wish that they would have used jaleel white for sonic's voice as I used to watch that cartoon as a kid everyday after school and that voice just fit perfectly. Too bad "chili dog" has a completely different meaning to me nowadays. ;p

I actually liked the Sonic Adventure 2 music. Listen to it on my way to class some days.

And as far as the voice acting...the writing really seems to be the bigger problem.

Overall, I'm pleased so far. Here's hoping they don't totally screw it up...

But hey, it's Brawl. There's some insurance right there that it'll be okay.

I don't know how many videogame players out there remember or were around for the rivalry of the 4th gen/16-bit era of gaming, but this is really magnanimous news for someone like myself who didn't think they'd ever see the day. I mean, MARIO & SONIC AT THE OLYMPICS was a 'cute' announcement, but let's face it... SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL was what I truly wanted to see the two face off in. It'd be the final deciding factor among the two legendary video game mascots.
