Okami confirmed for Wii, reports Eurogamer & MCV
One headline, two reliable British sites. Read: "Okami confirmed for Wii." Following the Capcom Gamer's Day event in London yesterday and a subsequent resurgence of the Okami Wii rumor, comes frank -- and frankly bare -- confirmation from Eurogamer and MCV of the long-anticipated port. Capcom apparently announced Okami for Wii to the Gamer's Day audience, adding that the release is expected by next spring. We're anticipating more details tomorrow, as Capcom has hinted at additional announcements planned for Friday.

Thank you god
Martin @ Oct 18th 2007 11:59AM
I might give it a go.
Liquid @ Oct 18th 2007 11:59AM
Awesome! I've been holding back on buying this for the PS2. Hopefully it will be budget priced like the RE4 port. Thanks Capcom!
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:15PM
Nice avatar. How 'bout them gamecocks!

Finally, some good original games coming to Wii.
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 12:12PM
That's not very fair. MP3 is good. The Wii just doesn't have a lot of exclusive games that are good from a traditional gamer perspective. Twilight Princess and RE4 are Gamecube games. Okami is a PS2 game. Afterburner (or whatever) was also a Ps2 game.
Then again, it's not TRYING to have games that are good from a traditional perspective, which is making it sell like gangbusters currently, but with a horrible attach rate. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

NEXT.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
From a plainly technical position, I suppose this means I don't have to buy a ps2.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:09PM
unless you get the 40gb ps3
License to ill @ Oct 18th 2007 12:04PM
Oh wow another PS2 rehash...
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:06PM
Yup, the PS2 just lost an exclusive...
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 12:13PM
Yes. One down, about four thousand to go.
As much as I love Okami, Wii fans should be more excited about getting Monster Hunter 3, since it's actually, you know, /new/.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:17PM
This is a "rehash" Wii owners have specifically been ASKING for.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 12:17PM
Four thousand? You wanna rethink that number?
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 12:49PM
You wanna rethink your over-serious response? Consider that maybe it was a joke? Goes along with Nimble's "the PS2 just lost an exclusive". Maybe you were unaware, but the PS2 has a metric assload of games. Maybe I should have used a made up number like 'hojillion' just in case some fanbot was going to take it seriously.
It's a "last-gen" console losing exclusivity of a game that got high reviews from critics, but had relativity poor sales. Awesome for Wii since people want the game, but to say its "a blow to the PS2" is dumb. Was anyone really going to get a PS2 solely for Okami this late in the game? Wouldn't they have gotten it already? There's nothing else on the system they were considering?
It's a different situation that MH3, since that was a "current-gen" game that got moved to the Wii. That was actually a hit to the PS3, that's a very popular franchise in Japan. Less so in the 'States.
License to ill @ Oct 18th 2007 12:54PM
Why make new games for the wii when you can port PS2 games with little cost over to the wii. They might as well port it over since Okami didn't sell worth a shit on the PS2...
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 1:08PM
You wanna rethink YOUR over-serious response?
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 18th 2007 1:30PM
"They might as well port it over since Okami didn't sell worth a shit on the PS2..."
You can thank Sony fanboys and their absolute lack of good taste in games for that.
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 2:46PM
Your "I know you are but what am I" trolling powers are weak, Mega. Come back when you have a comment to make.
Samfish. I don't think anyone's taste in games was related to Okami's poor sales (or their console choice). It wasn't advertised at all, got a few little blips in magazines and really just kind of rolled off the radar when it was released. I had trouble finding it in stores and ended up ordering online. But I already wanted it.
If you don't see it, you won't look into the reviews and won't hear about how great it is. So you won't buy it. There are plenty of non-casual gamers out there that don't live on game news like I do (and probably you do to, since you leave plenty of comments) that would have loved Okami, if they knew about it before.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 2:58PM
When I want to speak up, I'll speak up. I don't HAVE to say much to get a point across. PS2 has a lot of exclusives. Whoopie. A large majority of those exclusives are the kind of casual, kiddy, "I don't wanna spend a lot of money on game development" mish-mashes that people complain about on the Wii. If the PS2 managed to do just fan DESPITE such odds, the Wii's future is rosy. If it can pick up a good title along the way, port or not, all the better.
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 3:10PM
The difference is the PS2 was made for more serious, regular games and was wide-spread and low-priced enough to get the kiddie game maker's attention. It got big because of the more mature titles.
The Wii isn't built for regular games, it's built and, by Nintendo's admission, intended for the 'kiddie' games. Casual, just for fun, everyone wins kinds of games and maybe it will pick up more than a couple (TP, MP3) serious titles. Mario Galaxy, regardless of how much anyone of any age likes it, is made to be kid friendly. Nothing wrong with that. Hell, I think Sly Cooper 2 is one of the best PS2 games available, and it's definitely kid friendly.
To put it in goofy comics terms. The Wii is like the bizarro PS2. It's flipped. Also the white/black thing makes it a fun comparison. They are similar, but opposite.
Sidepocket @ Oct 19th 2007 2:58AM
@ Trev
Please define what a "mature" game is. Trust me, its not blowing off a hookers head with a shotgun that has N64 graphics.
If you are talking about traditional games, every time Nintendo releases a casual game they also release a traditional one. In fact I think the last time I counted there are more "hardcore" games than "traditional" games.
Sounds to me like someone needs a case of grow the fuck up.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 5:02PM
The only difference is that Nintendo is working in reverse. While the PS2 was riding high off the success of the PS1, they had no problems garnering hardcore support, and eventually all the shovelware trash. The Wii is throwing out the net wide and it will eventually start tightening up. C'mon, Nintendo is THAT dumb. They know that the "hardcore" crowd spends the most money on games. Other companies know that too. Nintendo will get the ball rolling and others will follow suit.
It amazes me to this day how people can still not wrap their head around that business plan.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 18th 2007 5:44PM
The Wii was not built for kiddie games. The Wii was built for all kinds of games. And that's what we're seeing, from Dewey's Adventure to Manhunt 2. We're also getting versatile control options, from traditional games like Smash Bros. now with 4 possible controllers to use (with button-mapping for each) to new games like Wii Sports and Elebits. Variety is good.
I'm definitely enjoying some of the Wiimakes of older games, especially when they get upgraded in the graphics and control departments. I didn't have any consoles last gen, when I fell into a StarCraft addiction for several years.
License to ill @ Oct 18th 2007 8:58PM
Mega you sure are delusional...
AstroZombie @ Oct 18th 2007 12:04PM
I wasn't that impressed with Okami the first time around. Yeah, it looked great, but it was just so tedious. You fight each boss at least twice, and I got REALLY tired of drawing circles halfway through the game. Still, it's a good fit for the Wii, and the pointer controls will probably help speed up the drawing, which is something you do almost constantly.
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 18th 2007 12:10PM
I love you Capcom...
Although I don't know much about the series I look forward to hearing and seeing more about the game...
I wonder if they'll improve the graphics or anything?
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:16PM
YAY! This is the best news all day!
Hirsbrunner @ Oct 18th 2007 12:16PM
Awesome news! Someone out there is listening. Looking forward to this.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 12:16PM
Wii Port Syndrome aside, there are several games out there for which gamers actually wouldn't mind a Wii port. This is one of them.
Questworld @ Oct 19th 2007 2:13AM
I wouldn't mind ports of the Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid series. Maybe Tales of the Abyss, a Burnout (though better make a Wii version that isn't a mere port of Burnout 3, but somewhere around a new BO akin to the old method as oppose to the one in Paradise), and a Mercnaries, Black, etc.
BlackFreefall @ Oct 18th 2007 12:16PM
Is good that I didn't get the PS2 version one.
Karen @ Oct 18th 2007 12:18PM
Are they going to add Widescreen support and 480P if so I'll buy it.
JodyAnthony @ Oct 18th 2007 12:21PM
one of the best games for PS2. I will get this on day one even though I already have the PS2 version in my PS2 as I type this.
MariosInferno @ Oct 18th 2007 12:25PM
Step one.
Next step...Okami series=Wii exclusive.
This should be pure awesome on the Wii.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 12:37PM
Series? It's going to have to sell hella good to make Capcom go back and make a new one.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 12:48PM
Didn't stop THQ from turning Tak and the Power of Juju into a franchise.
Geist @ Oct 18th 2007 5:21PM
I think it'd be great with a larger focus on the brushstroke aspect of the game, to make good use of the Wiimote.
James @ Oct 18th 2007 12:33PM
Awesome, I heard this game was good and now I'll be able to play it.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 18th 2007 12:37PM
This game is awesome and I'm glad it's coming to the Wii. Capcom needs to market the hell out of it this time. Too bad I don't feel like buying this game a second time though. How about an original game next time Capcom?
Phazon @ Oct 18th 2007 12:38PM
Glad I hadn't gotten the PS2 version yet.
Cutty @ Oct 18th 2007 12:40PM
This is great news from an Okami fan perspective, because it means that Capcom haven't totally dropped this beautiful game following the axing of Clover. Port or not, this game is an absolute treasure, and any Wii owners without a PS2 should be rejoicing over this.
Robobagins @ Oct 18th 2007 12:59PM
I only hope they add more to Okami. A straight port is nice and all, it's just that Okami felt too short to me.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 1:21PM
Holy crap! Look at rockintom just below us!
rockintom @ Oct 18th 2007 1:16PM
Am I the only one who didn't really actually like Okami? It was fun in the begining, but it ended up just dragging on.
megaStryke @ Oct 18th 2007 1:20PM
Man, look at Robobagins right above you:
"I only hope they add more to Okami. A straight port is nice and all, it's just that Okami felt too short to me."
This is you:
"Am I the only one who didn't really actually like Okami? It was fun in the begining, but it ended up just dragging on."
He says it was too short. You say it dragged on too long. I think my mind just got blown!
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 18th 2007 1:28PM
I thought it was just the opposite. I thought it was TOO slow in the begining and kind of boring. But about 10 hours in it really cracks itself open and you get into it.
I also liked the way it kept going on and on. When I first beat Orochi, I figured, "This is the end of the game...how sad"
Then unfolded the story even more and you defeat...the next big boss and think, "OK, now this is the end"
And then it turns out that there's STILL more of the game to play before you beat it!
That was easily the most pleasant surprise of Okami to me.
Trev @ Oct 18th 2007 3:09PM
Okami had a strange pace to it. After fighting Crimson Helm (the fire guy, who resembled one of Orochi's heads) I expected seven more element-based bosses, then Orochi. But your second boss fight basically saves the world and kills Orochi; what is normally 'the game' is done, but you've still got more things to do and it finally comes back around. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about the way it was put together in that respect. You follow a really linear path, but with the veneer of a non-linear game.
Sean @ Oct 18th 2007 1:26PM
I enjoyed Okami a bunch, but it was far too long in my opinion. I didn't even finish it because it seemed like it was taking forever.
