UK could still get Manhunt 2 as a download
The wild frontier that is the internet can be scary at times, what with all the card sharks who would shoot you as soon as look at you and snake oil men out to make a quick buck. Also: pirates. But it does have it's plus sides too. For instance, it could make it possible for our friends in the UK to buy Manhunt 2, even though it's been effectively banned there. Because of a loophole in the UK's 1984 Video Recordings Act, downloadable games don't need to go through the certification process required for retail games, meaning that a downloadable version of Manhunt 2 could be permitted. Of course, even if Rockstar decided that was an avenue they wanted to pursue, it would be an impossibility on the PS2 and a giant paradigm shift for the Wii's Virtual Console, so it still doesn't seem terribly likely. Ah well, at least we know that when Manhunt 2 turns our nation into a pack of murderous zombies, we'll have a country where we can chill out.

or, ya know, we could import the mainland european version since itll have english on it anyways :D
David Keating @ Oct 25th 2007 12:39PM
The 512MB flash drive on the Wii could never support a game the size of Manhunt 2, legal loophole or no.
Dale @ Oct 25th 2007 1:26PM
It's a shame the read speed of SD cards is so slow, I doubt Manhunt is so technically amazing that it would fill a 2GB card.
Admiral_Mike @ Oct 25th 2007 12:49PM
or we could import from mainland Europe, where it hasn't been banned. THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR....LIK-SA..........oh dammit.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 25th 2007 12:51PM
The UK ban the sell right? well so why not import it from other country?
Dale @ Oct 25th 2007 1:21PM
I hereby officially announce the petition to stop people using the phrase "paradigm shift".
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 25th 2007 1:37PM
But it sounds cool and no one will be ever sure of what you just said.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 25th 2007 4:52PM
I second Dale's proposal. All in favor?
ill trooper @ Oct 25th 2007 9:10PM
I concur, but I still would rather read 'paradigm shift' than seeing the term 'sea change' so brutalized. I think there's a bigger problem with overuse of the word 'douchebag' right now...
Y_Do_U_Play_Shit_Games @ Oct 25th 2007 1:35PM
Who cares, this came is going to be S**T!
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 25th 2007 1:56PM
I agree. Nobody else seems to, though.
Poisoned Al @ Oct 25th 2007 3:37PM
Well I do too. With all the AAA titles clawing at my wallet, why would I give this POS a look? I've been around to long to give a shit about hype and tabloid hyperbole.
AirIntake @ Oct 25th 2007 1:42PM
Couldn't UK people just order the game from Ireland, or France, or Sweden etc?
jamma @ Oct 25th 2007 5:37PM
from anywhere in the world off eBay. I've done it with loads of games that have had delayed or no releases here in the Uk
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 25th 2007 2:18PM
Or, you could just get an unedited copy for the PS2 that's floating around the net already... or so I've heard...
Avast, me matey! They may be after ye! :)
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 25th 2007 4:53PM
I exude lulz at the "UK's 1984 Video Recordings Act."
jamma @ Oct 25th 2007 5:34PM
Guys you forgot that there's a PSP version, which is probably the easiest platform to download to. not that many people would actually want to....
ill trooper @ Oct 25th 2007 9:37PM
I see that they're already trying this new 'paradigm' with Mario Galaxies...
Really though, where would you store a full game like 'Manhunt 2'? I doubt you'd be allowed to download and burn it to a CD/DVD for use in the Wii, and you can't really ask people to get a 2 or 4 gig SD card specifically for this game...
This game is doomed in the UK, cult-classic following at best. Might be the cooler road to take anyway. But no one's making money if it goes that route, and this will be used in meetings for years to come as an example of 'what not to do' if the content being worked on is questionable in the eyes of the general public.
rellik_san @ Oct 26th 2007 4:59AM
Not really, lets face it, GTA 4 is going to fly off the shelves, so what the meetings will actually consist of is:
"This is the last time we try to copy one of the many violent horror films that have come out in 2007 which show people, without remorse killing, torturing and raping, innocent bikini clad girls and muscle heads for other peoples amusement, due to the double standard the BBFC is inflicting due to fears about the interactive element of a game, despite their own study showing its that interactive element that distances people from the game and the lack of the interactive element that absorbs people into a films plot line."
But hey, on the plus side, whats to stop an indy dev creating a clone of the game, made available via a 'on demand' gaming service like gametap or the like? HINT HINT ROCKSTAR!
Jreg @ Oct 26th 2007 8:33AM
Even with that loop-hole, Nintendo still requires DLC games to be rated before being 'submitted' to them.
I'm not too fussed about the game, so probably wont go down any importing routes. It just doesnt make me tingle. Unlike Ghost Squad ooooo yeah!
Ninja_Nun @ Oct 27th 2007 12:37PM
You think wed let you in? okay maybe you Justin and possibly Ludwig as the wise cracking butler but thats it.
