Overline gives Wii owners "The Shaft"
Punny headlines aside, The Shaft provides yet another way to control all those Virtual Console downloads clogging up your Wii menu. The wired, 6" x 11" arcade-style stick from previously unheard-of Overline Gaming merges the proud tradition and size of arcade fighting sticks with the svelte, plastic styling of the Wii. It sports analog control for Nintendo 64 games as well as digital "resting points" in the eight primary directions for older-school gaming. Pre-orders are currently being taken for white, pink and black version for mid-December shipment -- $39.95 for one or $69.95 for two.

LOL
Mightyelf @ Nov 14th 2007 2:04PM
Great! now we can play Wii like XBox 360 or PS3.
Why some one want that?
LOL
Sean Newton @ Nov 14th 2007 6:13PM
Eh, if you're getting nostalgic for some old Nintendo titles on a virtual console, you might be nostalgic for something closer to an original controller too.
Negativecool @ Nov 14th 2007 2:08PM
So.....
First they wanted us to buy a Wii...now they want us to buy a SHAFT for it?...
Head..overloading...with other possible phallicly named peripherals...
Zertoss @ Nov 14th 2007 2:13PM
Yeah, why don't they stop beating around the bush and just release a peripheral called The Penis already?
StrangeBum @ Nov 14th 2007 2:31PM
It reminds me of Austin Powers.
The penis ship.
'nuff said.
Mr Khan @ Nov 14th 2007 5:23PM
Plus all the "Thrustmaster" peripherals for your Wii
damn, you'd think it was deliberate
Martin @ Nov 14th 2007 2:08PM
Act now and we'll double your order!
Seriously, anytime a product is cheaper for two than it is for one, I get nervous. Not to mention it just doesn't look comfortable.
Undead Priest @ Nov 14th 2007 2:11PM
Is this the videogame equivalent of 'docking'?
Nobody will get my meaning, but at least I amused myself.
unfriendly_cat @ Nov 14th 2007 2:22PM
I did get it and now I feel dirty. You are a bad person.

You mean the urban dictionary docking or the Wikipedia docking?
Undead Priest @ Nov 14th 2007 4:05PM
UrbanDictionary meaning.
deaftly @ Nov 14th 2007 2:11PM
Now my girlfriend will like video games.

They say this Shaft is a bad mother...
WiNG @ Nov 14th 2007 2:40PM
shut your mouth!
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 14th 2007 3:02PM
Hey, he's just talking about Shaft.
exit stencil @ Nov 14th 2007 3:05PM
We can dig it.
Kye (NDF - Earth Ring) @ Nov 14th 2007 7:28PM
That HAD to be organised.
Negativecool @ Nov 15th 2007 12:06AM
You know that part in the movie where they all break out into an elaborate organized song and dance and you smirk and think to yourself, "What the he--Why do they all know what to--This could NEVER happen!."
...
And so today, I stand corrected.
Round of [+]'s on me.
Poisoned Al @ Nov 14th 2007 2:16PM
Does it vibra... I mean does it have rumble?
Emperor Samoth @ Nov 14th 2007 2:36PM
No wonder why soccer moms like this system. Forgot to mention that it's also a hit with the homo-erotic crowd. The closest thing to an AO rated game system without the AO games... What a waste.
megaStryke @ Nov 14th 2007 2:39PM
So... why should anyone get this over the Hori Fighting Stick which not only looks better and actually features the Z button but also is wireless by docking with the Wii Remote? It's only ten bucks more, too.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 14th 2007 3:10PM
Agreed. Plus, this thing is on $40 for PRE-ORDER. They state the retail price will be $80. Makes me think of informercials (BUY NOW AND GET IT FOR HALF-PRICE! YAY YAY YAY!).
I'm not willing to risk $40, anyways, on a untested accessory from an unknown company.
I think... This just plugs into the GameCube ports (if that's what they mean by it being a wired controller). This is re-enforced by the "Select/Z" button (since GameCube didn't have a Select button, its Z button worked as Select for some emulated games).
So, this may be a good solution for GameCube games.
As for Hori's Fighting Stick Wii... Yeah, it is $10 more, but it is wireless (sorta, since it plugs into the Wii Remote), has ZL and ZR buttons, and individual turbo switches (which I prefer to the programmable turbo button). Plus, I know with Hori I'm going to get quality.
rikimaru @ Nov 14th 2007 2:40PM
Remember sleazy video game kids talking about their 'wanna grab my joystick' pick up lines?
Now it could be so much worse:
Wanna play with my Wii shaft sugartits?
WiNG @ Nov 14th 2007 2:42PM
P1: Dude I can't beat Sonic 2, damn Death Egg is a bastard.
P2: You need to get The Shaft.
P1: I already am. EVERY FRIGGIN DAY.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 14th 2007 3:03PM
Bravo! You win an Internet.
iMax @ Nov 14th 2007 2:43PM
Speaking of colors, why hasn't anyone questioned Nintendo about the different colors of the Wii that were supposed to be available at launch?
plyx @ Nov 14th 2007 2:48PM
The Wii will never run out of dick jokes.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 14th 2007 3:12PM
I just want to point out something people have seemed to have missed:
There's a pink Shaft.
There's a PINK Shaft.
There's a pink SHAFT.
There's a PINK SHAFT.
Rob Accomando @ Nov 14th 2007 3:13PM
Ask me about my Wii.
Martez @ Nov 14th 2007 3:18PM
Wired? As in, does it connect to the Wii with a USB cord, or to the Wii remote? If USB, why couldn't they make it connect to the Wii remote like the classic controller?
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 14th 2007 6:22PM
I think it's really a GameCube controller. Note the Select/Z button.
Lemmiwinks @ Nov 14th 2007 4:01PM
Is it just me, or does it not have enough buttons for N64 games?
Shadow Hog @ Nov 14th 2007 7:30PM
Eeeeeh. I love the resurrection of the 6-face-button layout (a la Street Fighter or the Sega Saturn controller); but, in my humble opinion, L and R should be on the LEFT, not the right. Then A and B will largely line up with the Saturn's C and B buttons, respectively, and it'd feel a lot more proper...
I suppose that'd be meaningless since there aren't any Saturn games for the Wii, anyway, but, eh, old habits break hard - and having to advance menus with what I usually consider "B" and back out of them with what I usually consider "A" would prove to be rather cumbersome...
