Nyko's Perfect Shot, critics surely ready to take aim
Get ready to blow away the competition with Nyko's Perfect Shot, the most gun-looking peripheral yet for the Wii. That is one fine piece of plastic Glock-like craftsmanship, almost makes you want to ... well, it's available for $13 from Amazon after Christmas.
Following the Washington Post's take on the toyish Wii Zapper, we can't help but wonder how things would have played out if Nyko's Perfect Shot was on the market at the time. Doesn't it just beg to be painted metallic black? Depending on how the nunchuk actually attaches to this thing, it could actually be a cool looking peripheral for those who don't think toy guns will bring down civilization as we know it.

Does anyone know if there's a spot for the Nunchuck on this thing?
filpaul @ Nov 27th 2007 1:52PM
the Amazon page says "Accessory pass-through port for other attachments like the Nunchuk and Classic Controller"
jorojoserojas @ Nov 27th 2007 1:34PM
I still wish they would just release the zapper prototype...you know, the shotgun-looking one. That one looked fairly decent, and it would function well if they kept the analog stick on it.
riod @ Nov 27th 2007 3:31PM
I never really got that design... it might look like a gun but when you actually use it you're basically just holding the nunchuck behind the wiimote without freedom of motion (something that doesn't even remotely resemble holding a gun).
Phillip @ Nov 27th 2007 1:38PM
That actually looks kinda cool. Now all we need is a game to play it with. And I don't think Umbrella Chronicles counts as you need a nunchuk(I think).

actually, you *can* play Umbrella Chronicles without the nunchuck even attached, I do it most of the time... all the nunchuck does is let you cycle through your weapons with "c" (and you can do the same with up and down on the d-pad), and tilt the camera ever so slightly with the stick, it's so barely worth it that without the 'chuck you probably wouldn't even miss it... and that gun controller looks awesome, I may get 2
Rubix42 @ Nov 27th 2007 1:40PM
Cool looking.
How in the hell would I ever play Metroid with it though? You need to press the buttons on the wii-mote, and I don't see a good way to do that with this.
Chris @ Nov 27th 2007 1:47PM
You don't play Metroid with it because Samus doesn't use a gun.
Seriously, does anyone ever ask to play Halo with a Light Gun? Then don't ask to play Metroid with one.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 27th 2007 1:42PM
That looks cool... but the Zapper Shotgun prototype looked amazing.
Kye, NDF - Fearless Leader @ Nov 27th 2007 2:07PM
I somewhat agree with the above comment.
But I think this looks cool...
... What's that rumbling?!
It's JT INCOMING!
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Nov 27th 2007 1:42PM
Nice!
Negativecool @ Nov 27th 2007 1:42PM
Now THAT my friends is what a "next gen" Wii zapper SHOULD look like.
Now all they need to do is
-Make an exact replica of a glock
-Fit a Wiimote into it
-Make it out of gun metal
-Sell a Wiimote that comes in gun metal black
-Include life-like blanks with every pull of the trigger
I'd buy that for a dollar! (kudos to anyone that gets the old school nickelodeon reference)
McWeen @ Nov 27th 2007 1:48PM
I'd buy that for a dollar
McWeen @ Nov 27th 2007 1:49PM
Ok it erased half my comment. That's originally from Robocop.
Ironhide @ Nov 27th 2007 2:52PM
Yup. Originated in 1987. Loooong before Nickelodeon came to be.
commen-cents @ Nov 27th 2007 3:16PM
im pretty sure nickelodeon was around before 1987
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 27th 2007 1:43PM
To make an effective "Zapper", they need to have the analog stick back by the stock like the original zapper prototype, and then they need to have buttons on the side of the zapper (like where you'd hold a shotgun with your left hand) that had all the wiimote buttons available there, as well as the nunchuk buttons. I really don't think this is too much to ask.
WiNG @ Nov 27th 2007 1:56PM
The Dreamcast Japan-only gun was best
Analog and digi pads where thumb rests
VMU displays ammo and health
looks cool as hell
FOXHOUND @ Nov 27th 2007 2:02PM
I was hoping we'd get something like that stateside when the Dreamcast was around; but no such luck. But at least the lightgun I bought for HOUSE OF THE DEAD2 by Interact was somewhat decent. Kinda reminded me of Namco's GUNCON.
As for Nyko's PERFECT SHOT... I'd probably make the mold more 'sleek' or 'futuristic' looking to keep it from totally resembling a pale colored, cap-poppin', "it's just a toy, officer" lightgun.
Bluebrake @ Nov 27th 2007 2:13PM
I still prefer this one: http://technabob.com/blog/2007/05/22/wii-light-gun-neither-a-light-nor-a-gun/
And media critics aren't going to give this thing a second glance, I guarantee. That's because the zapper "controversy" is completely manufactured and has nothing to do with someone making a toy that resembles a gun -- that happens a million times a year. The controversy comes up when *Nintendo*, maker of a currently popular gizmo, makes a toy that resembles a gun! A story that brings together the media darling Wii, gun control, video game violence, and concerned parents -- now there's an article you can take to the bank!
But when some third party nobody's ever heard of tries it? Meh.
Ironhide @ Nov 27th 2007 2:19PM
It's end of days I tells ya! End of days! Kids with the Wii zapper are learning how to shoot and kill zombies and monsters! And shoot them accurately complete with military training!
Come to think of it, we SHOULD be teaching our kids to shoot zombies. It's the only way to survive the Zombie Apacolypes...
lineX7 @ Nov 27th 2007 2:21PM
We should probably teach them to spell first...
Rubix42 @ Nov 27th 2007 2:20PM
@Chris
Ummm, in Metroid on the Wii, you use the pointer to shoot Samus's Gun.
Are you just trolling, or did you seriously not know that?
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 27th 2007 2:57PM
It's not a gun, it's an arm cannon.
GumbyX84 @ Nov 27th 2007 2:59PM
You are kidding me right? Playing an FPS like Metroid with a lightgun (any lightgun for that matter) would just be too ackward. You need access to all those extra buttons. THAT is why it wouldn't work right.
Also, Samus uses a beam/arm cannon, not a gun. Get your facts straight troll. (See I can be-little people too, but only do it when they deserve it).
Jon @ Nov 27th 2007 2:29PM
Looks like a bleeding toy. Only a seven year old would want this.
KHCloud @ Nov 27th 2007 2:54PM
AHHH!!!!! Oh I almost thought it was a real gun for a second. It looks so realistic, I mean I completely ignored the fact that it has the IR sensor on the front and buttons all over the top.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 27th 2007 3:01PM
And the fact that the entire thing is WHITE.
KHCloud @ Nov 27th 2007 3:44PM
Well yeah but it can be painted to have the colour of a real gun, but their isn't much someone can do to make it look like an actual gun. Plus if someone wants to scare somebody else that bad they should just use an airsoft gun.
Nate @ Nov 27th 2007 2:59PM
Funny how wiimote zappers are horribly bad, and the GunCon 3 for PS3 isn't mentioned. Granted, it's bright orange in the US, so no one's going to mistake it for a gun.... but then again, that's true of those wiimote things too.

Knoxximus @ Nov 27th 2007 3:57PM
I actually bought Time Crisis 4, and you know what? I like Ghost Squad with the Zapper LOADS more. The new Guncon just doesn't feel right, and even with the 5-point calibration, still isn't very accurate at all. I'm sooooo trading it in. From now on, unless something drastic happens, I'm sticking with the Wii for Light Gun games.
Nate @ Nov 27th 2007 4:06PM
Yeah, I've heard less than enthusiastic reviews as well. It's really too bad. I love shooters in the arcades, you'd think with so much experience making them, they could make something decent.
Knoxximus @ Nov 27th 2007 3:55PM
These are gonna be PERFECT for when I wanna get my John Woo on with House of the Dead....I'm in for 2!
nick @ Nov 28th 2007 12:59AM
More Wii stupidity. The wii remote is not a light gun. I wish it was, but its not. Its a gyro mouse.
Why would you want to operate a gyro mouse holding it like a gun?
icicle0424 @ Nov 27th 2007 5:33PM
isn't that on Super Smash TV?
icicle0424 @ Nov 27th 2007 5:38PM
"Isn't that on Super Smash TV" should be a reply to "I'd buy that for a dollar"
Michael @ Nov 27th 2007 6:16PM
Medal of Honor Arcade mode is probably the best idea without the nunchuck. Other then that. i cant think of anything else.
