Pokémon Snap gets Wii functionality on Virtual Console
Next Tuesday, Japanese Wii owners will be able to download the underrated N64 title Pokémon Snap on the Wii's Virtual Console. Unique to this release, however, will be newly added Wii functionality, setting an interesting precedent for future VC releases.
Dengeki Online reports that photographs taken in-game can be posted to the Wii Message Board, and sent along to friends using the Wii's internet connection. While this isn't a terribly interesting use of the Wii functionality, it does show that Nintendo is willing to add new features to Virtual Console titles. No word yet on when Pokémon Snap will be making its debut in other regions, but could other upcoming VC titles be receiving similar treatment?

Pokémon Snap was one of the best spin-off titles (perhaps second only to Pokémon Puzzle League, since nothing beats Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon). It may be something I'd consider downloading even though I already own it.
This is just icing on the cake.
rTwelve @ Nov 30th 2007 12:02PM
THE CAKE IS A--
I would like to point out, that Tetris Attack is by far the game I do the best on, as well as sentimental value that it was the first game I bought with my own money.
I will own anybody in Tetris Attack.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 30th 2007 12:03PM
Dammit, I set myself up for a cake reference.
Oh, well. You win this round, R12!
Next time, Gadget! NEEEEEEXT TIIIIIME!!!
Jerk Face @ Nov 30th 2007 11:37AM
Holy fucking balls. That is so god damned awesome.
Seriously? Most Underrated Game Ever!
And this is really good news if it means Nintendo is willing to put that extra effort out on VC titles. First we get imports and now updates?
Well that's almost as good as XBLA games...
I mean, it's still good though!
W00t!
Chris @ Nov 30th 2007 11:37AM
I hope everyone on my Friend's List is ready to be spammed with pictures of Psyduck.
FOXHOUND @ Nov 30th 2007 11:50AM
I'll take that over that "Slobro the Hedgehog" thing going around... x_x
Shagittarius @ Nov 30th 2007 11:39AM
I hope I'm just missing the sarcasm of the above posters.
bm @ Nov 30th 2007 11:50AM
That's the exact same thing I think each time I read any one of your posts.
rTwelve @ Nov 30th 2007 12:00PM
I don't know why you would hate this game. You get to throw crap at Pokémon! Possibly injuring them or knocking them out! Does that not appeal to you?
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 30th 2007 12:02PM
Shag is just a hateful Nintendo troll. Don't try to reason with him.
FYI, no sarcasm here.
AstroZombie @ Nov 30th 2007 2:07PM
I've never been a Pokemon fan at all, but this was a seriously kick-ass game that I would've completely missed had my younger brother not been so into them.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 30th 2007 11:39AM
I have the original game... it's a good game, casual... a game to pick and play when you don't have a lot time wants to have fun...
Better than Pokemon Stadium.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 30th 2007 11:39AM
Thats awesome.
Only thing we need now is wiimote integration for appropriate titles.
Yeah, that will never happen. And after thinking about it 10 seconds longer, probably isn't a good idea, either.
WiNG @ Nov 30th 2007 11:40AM
This is great news.
With the probably inclusion of Duck Hunt on VC, we will see more and more Wii-specific changes to games to make them more accessible or fun.
Now... let's see Sin and Punishment upgraded to use Wiimote aiming.
Or add motion control to Starfox64.
Or just release Sonic 3 and Knuckles already, with LOCK ON TECHNOLOGY.
Jay @ Nov 30th 2007 11:56AM
I had thought about that before. They could set it up where if yoy buy both S3 and S&K you can download S3&K free.
Andrew @ Nov 30th 2007 1:28PM
But why wouldn't you just get Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube? It has all the good sonic games, and it costs less than buying Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles would cost on VC.
samfish @ Nov 30th 2007 10:13PM
I would roundabouts kill for Wiimote aiming in S&P.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 30th 2007 11:44AM
Oh, Snap! Definitely not the world's biggest Pokemon fan, but I always had a soft spot for this game. I really hope that this one crosses the ocean, Wii-controls intact.
GRANTED @ Nov 30th 2007 12:15PM
i see what you did there.
CubeGuy @ Nov 30th 2007 11:18PM
I don't. =C
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Nov 30th 2007 11:47AM
I really hope it comes to the US, but even if it does I am not buying another N64 game on the VC until they put out Tetrisphere.
(although I'll make an exception for Majora's Mask)
Zertoss @ Nov 30th 2007 11:57AM
I never understood what everyone's problem was with Majora's Mask. It was like they just heard someone say 3-day time limit and turned their back on the game.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 30th 2007 12:05PM
Personally, I liked Majora's Mask more than Ocarina of Time. I found it more fun and interesting than Ocarina of Time.
I think part of what happened that was stepping away from the usual "ohnoes Ganon kidnapped Zelda, go kill him" storyline of Zelda games (granted, yes, it isn't the same story every time, but the main plot point is).
And changing forms was real cool.
Silent Xenocide @ Nov 30th 2007 12:32PM
Yea I prefer Majora's Mask as well. It had awesome commercials too.
StrangeBum @ Nov 30th 2007 1:18PM
Majora's Mask was possibly my favorite N64 game.
I still remember trying over and over again to get the 'Couple's Mask' (whatever it was called) when you have to do that whole side story with the innkeeper girl and that guy and the robber and the cave....what a mess.
But I needed to get me some 'Fierce Deity Mask' action!
bm @ Nov 30th 2007 4:12PM
If I had to name my favourite game evar, MM would be a serious contender.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 30th 2007 6:55PM
I hate time limits in games, so MM is my LEAST favorite zelda.
bm @ Dec 1st 2007 4:32PM
There was no time limit.
No, I'm not kidding. They intentionally put in the song that slows down time to such a ridiculous effing crawl that it cannot be considered a "limit" anymore, because that is -not- what purpose the in-game clock serves.
If you don't understand what I mean, and if you still see it as something annoying, then you don't understand MM and you don't deserve to play it anyway.
DammitBran @ Nov 30th 2007 11:54AM
I'm still waiting for online multiplayer in VC games. That would put a dent in XBLA. In fact, I think that's why the VC is less successful that it could be.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 30th 2007 12:01PM
No, the reason VC isn't so successful is because neither Bubble Bobble nor River City Ransom are on it yet. AKA the best two games EVER.
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Nov 30th 2007 12:10PM
Bubble Bobble is the only reason I have my NES still hooked up.
The single best NES game.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 30th 2007 12:14PM
Bubble Booble? One of my top 10 Nes titles...
Awesome.
What about Adventures of Lolo? Awesome too =)
Shagittarius @ Nov 30th 2007 12:15PM
I'm still waiting on the only VC game I will ever buy: M.U.L.E.
Maybe LIVE will get a new version of it multiplayer, that would be awesome.
Vidikron (FU) @ Nov 30th 2007 1:37PM
@Fernando
I think this is one of the few times we agree on anything... the Lolo games are fantastic. Great puzzle games.
GatorSax2010 @ Nov 30th 2007 3:29PM
Agreed... So far the best thing for me about VC has been me FINALLY beating Lolo. I think in my head I'd set up the ending to be more exciting, but after 15 years, I was just glad to be done with it.
samfish @ Nov 30th 2007 9:55PM
I'm gonna 3rd that Adventures of Lolo is super-awesome.
StrangeBum @ Nov 30th 2007 11:56AM
Alright. This will be a day one purchase for me. I loved Pokemon Snap back in the day. I remember playing it for hours at a time just to go through each stage and look around at everything. I recently downloaded an emulator and rom to play it again as my cartridge doesn't work anymore.
Doesn't work as well on the PC, but with Wii controls, hell yeah!
rTwelve @ Nov 30th 2007 11:57AM
Snap was such a weird game. Legendary birds don't hatch from eggs.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 30th 2007 12:01PM
Then what do they hatch from? Cardboard boxes?
rTwelve @ Nov 30th 2007 12:03PM
I don't know; didn't they make a movie about it?
tmmoore_nc @ Nov 30th 2007 11:59AM
Maybe Nintendo should update Mario Kart 64 with Online Leaderboards to make up for no Ghost Data.
Donald @ Nov 30th 2007 12:00PM
No "My Pokemans, let me show you them" post?
I admire your restraint.
StrangeBum @ Nov 30th 2007 12:10PM
so I heard u liek mudkipz
Jerk Face @ Nov 30th 2007 12:18PM
LOL, So seriously what is the deal with the cult following for mudkips?
James @ Nov 30th 2007 12:29PM
That wasn't a real LOL was it? I hope not.
I don't get the Mudkip thing either. It was a terrible Pokemon.
WiNG @ Nov 30th 2007 1:00PM
if you don't know what the mudkipz thing is about, search "mudkip" and "depravity" on google.
You'll find your mudkips.
You've been warned.
StrangeBum @ Nov 30th 2007 1:16PM
@ WiNG
More like google 'mudkipz' and 'cesspool of the internet'.
But you're right, be warned young innocent minds that know not the revolution of the mudkipz!
Slaziman @ Nov 30th 2007 2:14PM
I didn't find anything to those queries guys.
Andrex (NDF - Host) @ Nov 30th 2007 2:48PM
It's a 4chan thing guys, there's some story that this Pokefreak started getting intimate with a doll of Mudkip right in a school hallway.
Go to Encyclopedia Dramatica and enter "Mudkip" and see what comes up.
Jamie @ Nov 30th 2007 4:04PM
Search Encylopedia Dramatica for Mudkip.
