The Titan-ic new God of War 3 trailer

Sony released this new God of War III trailer today, to go alongside our brand new preview. It's an extended version of the one shown during the VGAs in December and features some of Kratos' new abilities and the game's god-sized scale -- the ending camera shot turns Kratos into a flea! The video was rendered in-game, so cross your blades that it keeps on looking this good -- and angry -- as development continues. Okay, we'll stop writing now, so you can get to watching the darned thing already!

Joystiq visits: The Afro Samurai launch party in Los Angeles

Namco Bandai, er ... we mean Surge rented out the Geisha House in Hollywood last night in order to throw a party for the launch of Afro Samurai, and Joystiq tagged along to check things out. The best thing about the night? Plenty of stations to play the game on both PS3s and Xbox 360s. Sadly, the sound was so loud in the place that you couldn't hear the hacking and slashing from the samurai with the gigantic hairdo.

Also puzzling was the fact that Samuel L. Jackson was listed as a co-host of this party and was a no show. That was a real surprise, since he provides both the voices of Afro Samurai and his sidekick Ninja Ninja and is a co-producer of the series. Either he didn't show at all, or he really does have ninja-esque skills and we just missed him. Update: he actually did show up, we just missed him. Plus he was dressed for freezing weather.

Check out the gallery below, and highlights after the break including a video performance by an afro-bedecked The RZA, who provides music both on the show and in the game.

Lost, Damned, and caught on video

Meet Billy, he's lost. Meet Malc, he's probably lost too. Possibly damned, we don't know for sure. Together, they make for one zany couple. Wonder what kind of hi-jinx they like to get into? See for yourself after break.

New Street Fighter IV trailer looks awesome, sounds not awesome

Capcom, we need to talk -- or rather, you need to talk less. You see, we were watching the new Street Fighter IV trailer and, beautiful though it may be, we had to mute it halfway through. The video, which highlights each of the game's characters, has some pretty cornball material -- we're talking laughing at, not laughing with.

... Then again, once we get our hands on the game, we'll probably be too enthralled to notice. SFIV is set to punch you in the face on February 17.

The Conduit: Then vs. now

High Voltage Software's The Conduit has an interesting backstory. It popped up out of nowhere back in April, giving hope of filling that unfilled void of mature first-person shooters for Wii, and remained without a publisher for about six months until Sega finally picked it up.

Of course, what really sparked interest was the impressive, dare we say, not Wii-like visuals. The folks at Gametrailers have a video comparing an early and pre-rendered build to the game's current state. It's a fun -- if not too short -- before-and-after look at the FPS. See it for yourself after the break. The Conduit is expected to hit retail sometime this Spring.

Bit.Trip Beat bringing funky chiptunes to WiiWare

The upcoming WiiWare game, Bit.Trip Beat, goes for a retro style that makes Mega Man 9 look futuristic in comparison. Comprised of 8-bit chiptunes and giant pixel blocks, Bit.Trip Beat certainly looks the part of an '80s arcade game.

This video highlights the simple gameplay. It appears you must simply align a Pong-esque paddle to hit a stream of notes as they stream to the left of the screen. While it looks simple, the team promises it will be "challenging." The game will also feature 4-player local co-op, which should make for an interesting experience.

Alex Neuse, designer at Gaijin Games, said the "team wanted to make a game that used the tools of today to inspire the fun of yesterday." We wonder if Wii fans will agree with the team's vision, or if it'll be passed off as a bit too retro for their tastes.

New Killzone 2 trailer shows first-person opera

We would so go to the opera house more often if it was a giant LCD and a couple of kids playing first-person shooters ... in slow motion, with a dramatic opera lady singing off to the side -- and free popcorn. Alas, this is as close to a Killzone 2 opera as we're ever going to get (barring a double-secret Opera Mode), so sit back, crack your knuckles, and enjoy this world-class, pirouetting Helghast troop.

Curious about Killzone 2? Check out our ridiculously informative FAQ, featuring everything from button layout to release date to Trophies to multiplayer analysis, and more! And if that don't do it for ya? Then proceed directly to our hands-on preview of the single-player campaign.

Atlus bringing the Tokyo Beat Down to DS

Tokyo Beat Down is a new action game for Nintendo DS where the only answer to crime is to punch it in the face. The Beast Cops make the LAPD look like the ladies from The View with their questionable ethics and overwhelming weaponry. Fight every sort of criminal, drug dealer and murderer in Tokyo, and you'll have a chance at taking down "the ultimate crime boss." If you make it that far, chances are you'll punch him in the face as well.

Atlus is wholeheartedly embracing the cheese factor of Tokyo Beat Down with dialogue that includes classic lines like "Crime never waits, so why should justice?" and "Fists can solve any problem!" If you're looking for a campy DS game, you may want to mark down March 10th on your calendars.

Prototype coming Summer 2009, 'new' trailer released

Punch through our gallery.
In time for CES, Activision has just revealed a brand new Prototype trailer (viewable after the break). But wait? Why does this footage look so familiar? Ah -- it must be because of that "leak" last month. While a lot of the trailer is regurgitated, we are rewarded with a slight glimpse into the story and a vague "release date" of sorts: Summer 2009.

The powers look quite ... powerful and rather painful -- at least, on the receiving end. Until we can give you a hands-on report, you'll have to make do with these new screens and the aforementioned trailer:

Zangief Chronicles reveals real-world struggles of Street Fighter

"Zangief battled many enemies in his life before Street Fighter II. All have fallen beneath lumbering boots of Zangief at one time or another. But sometimes, there is battle that even Zangief cannot win. One that doesn't take place in frozen tundras against polar bears. Zangief speak of greater struggle. A struggle that lives not in physical world, but in human heart. This is Zangief Chronicles."

We don't know why Zangief Chronicles exists, but we're glad it does. Sent to Capcom as a New Year's gift, this video series reveals some juicy details on the life (and loves!) of everyone's favorite shirtless Russian Street Fighter. You can catch all the episodes here.

EA expands Nintendo focus, announces TWO MySims games for Wii/DS

Things aren't going so well in the world of EA. Disappointing sales of games like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space have forced the company to restructure, letting go of 10% of its workforce. However, we see newfound hope for the company's bottom line with its latest Nintendo-focused efforts. EA is planning on expanding the MySims franchise with two new games that truly broaden what's possible in gaming.

MySims Party promises to turn any gathering into an "instant party" by offering -- wait for it -- a variety of minigames to play with. Shake the Wii Remote to partake in 50 minigames, ranging from snowboarding to dancing. The DS version will feature 40 stylus-powered minigames. 2K Games also created a similarly innovative title, which sold over a million copies.

In addition to the wildly innovative MySims Party, EA has another sure-fire hit on its hands. Nintendo fans will absolutely adore MySims Racing. We don't want to spoil the game's unique offering, so we placed that trailer after the break.

The best thing you'll see today: Japanese Dead Rising Wii trailer

Oh, dear reader, we don't even know where to begin. In this Japanese trailer for Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop for Wii, a zombie punk band entertains the entire cast of the game, zombies included. Witness flying chainsaws, slap-happy security guards and a very pushy, mic-stealing Frank West. The weirdest part of all? Zombie and Man living together in perfect harmony. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Beefwatch: Totilo beats Soulja Boy! ... at Geometry Wars 2

Sure, our favorite game journalist, Stephen Totilo, may have promptly lost the last two games he played against the Braid-loving rap auteur in Gears of War 2 and Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. But for one glorious moment, Soulja Boy's lunch had been eaten, and Totilo's face was covered in crumbs.

If you've got the notion, you can watch the full battle over on MTV's site. On a side note, we think we may have turned the corner on Soulja Boy. We think ... we think maybe we're totally into him.

The Best Thing You'll See Today: DJ I-Dee's 8-bit music video

We don't claim to know much about music here at Joystiq (our long-time favorite band is Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters) but we do know what warms us to our very cockles. That's exactly the effect achieved by DJ I-Dee's new video, "Swollen Dome/1991," which features more references to classic gaming than we can count.

Be forewarned though, like all of our very favorite Christmas songs, it contains profanity. Check it out after the break.

Yahtzee gets in front of the camera on Game Damage

We love Yahtzee, but our love is constantly being tempered by a severe mistrust of disembodied voices (A Christmas Story? Ho-ho-horrifying.) Thankfully, the fast-talking game critic has put on some pants, gathered a couple of friends (co-hosts Yug and Matt), gotten a camera and created Game Damage, a video game show pilot that they're hoping attracts some network attention.

The crew is still trying to find a balance between being TV hosts and just talking, and some bits fall flat. But Yahtzee (and the offbeat topics) would probably be enough reason for us to tune in. Watch after the break and see if you agree.
